Toro y Moi
In less than 3 hours, Toro y Moi recorded piano, drums, bass, guitar, rhodes, and vocals (in that order) for this live re-make of “You Hid,” tracking each instrument only once and rarely asking for a playback of what was just recorded. It’s one of those sessions you warn yourself not to forget.

Califone came through SF to play the soundtrack to “All My Friends Are Funeral Singers,” a new film by front man Tim Rutili. The band seemed a little on edge –not so much nervous, but genuinely excited– and when asked what the buzz was all about, Tim revealed that his film was just accepted into indie cinema mecca, Sundance. Isn’t it inspiring to see a veteran band excel at something beyond music? It’s like when Three Six Mafia bum-rushed the Oscars and pretty ladies in evening gowns were mashing to “Whoop That Trick,” like cold-blooded thugs.
And THAT’S NOT ALL FOLKS! Check out the title track, ”Funeral Singers” (which premiered today on Pitchfork).
