Iyanya Shows Gratitude As He Remembers His Earlier Days Of Pleading To Be Allowed To Perform At Shows

Popular Nigerian artist Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, also known professionally as Iyanya, has used social media to praise God and reflect on his time as a beggar in 2021. The singer of “Jombolo” announced this in a statement uploaded on his official Twitter account today, December 14, 2022. Iyanya describes the trauma he went through in the year 2021 in the posts, noting that he could only play at three performances, of which he was only paid for one and had to beg for the other two to be seen.

Recall Iyanya became well-known after taking home the top prize in Project Fame West Africa’s inaugural season, and he is best known for the smash tune “Kukere.” In 2011, he and Ubi Franklin created the music publishing company Made Men Music Group. 2013’s The Headies saw him win Artist of the Year. He also released several popular songs, such as Ur Waist, Flavour, and Sexy Mama, and performed live domestically and overseas until 2017, after which he vanished from the Nigerian music scene.

Iyanya, however, was able to regain his previous level of popularity in the Nigerian music sector after releasing a number of comeback singles, including Like, which featured Davido and Kizz Daniel, and One-Side. In addition, Iyanya stated that he now wakes up daily to alerts for gigs because he is already booked with 20+ shows this month, compared to last year’s December.
