Austra

In Latvian mythology, Austra is the goddess of light. But, when Katie Stelmanis, the luminary behind haunting electronic act Austra, walked on stage, she looked like a bewitching goddess of darkness. With an outfit as black as eyes wide shut, jewels sparkling from her temples, she snaked her arms in the air like sorcerer’s wands, mesmerizing the audience below. At the root of her performance was a voice that could move mountains, dominant in the brimming club, but certainly robust enough to fill any opera house. And, when Yours Truly captured that enthralling voice as she sat lovely on a piano bench, the classical training evident in her voice flowed through her veins, right down to her nimble fingers.
