Way Back Wed – Tropicália
Tropicália was a cultural movement that began in Brazil in the ’60s and it was reflected in all forms of artistic expression like theater, dance, poetry, painting, and of course, music. The music was characterized by a wild fusion of genres rooted in African rhythms and blooming vibrant petals of psychedelia. Like the subdued war cries of Bob Marley or the outspoken rebelliousness of Public Enemy, Tropicália resisted the militant government at the time; in fact, two of the head figures in this movement, Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, were exiled to London for spreading their rebellious lyrics. It’s a genre with rhythms that shake some action – in more ways than one.
Gal Costa – “Se Voce Pensa”
Gilberto Gil – “O Sonho Acabou”
Milton Nascimento – “Um Girassol da Cor”
Os Mutantes – “Baby”
