The opening line starts sharp with a difficult, but honest question: “How can you love me when you don’t like me, baby?” If the query were in regards to a cousin, a sibling or even an old high school friend, the explanation might be easier to swallow, but when it’s a lover, any and all words used in a response will cut like glass. Behind the soulful, psych of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, there’s broken spirit cowering in a cloud of patience. Maybe a few more hints, cups of tea and sunny afternoons will make you love again? Or maybe this song will be enough? Fingers crossed.
