“White Lives Matter” Shirts Were Distributed By Kanye West On Skid Row, And It’s Causing A Lot Of Problems
A video of a group distributing famed “White Lives Matter” shirts from Kanye West to individuals living on Skid Row was shared online by a person who is thought to be a close friend of the musician. “Courtesy of Kanye West,” someone could be heard yelling in the footage.
“They dropped off a big box here and told everybody to come here to pick them up,” said resident Stephanie Arnold-Williams. “I was like this is not a good spot. I don’t think you should bring them here.”
The shirts were introduced by West, who is now known as Ye, at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month. The contentious phrase is printed on the back of the garments, and Pope John Paul II is featured on the front. “White Lives Matter” has been referred to as hate speech by the Anti-Defamation League. In Skid Row, many people don’t understand why anyone would do this.
The Union Rescue Mission Director said that he was “so far kind of puzzled.” Even the people who got the t-shirts are perplexed by the goal of this action. The T-shirts, according to several locals, are already generating problems. Ye told Fox News following Paris that he found the shirt’s message to be “funny” and “obvious.”
