Vancouver’s Chains of Love seem to offer a sound like prom night in the ’60s; however, that shimmering gloss of a newly-waxed gymnasium dancefloor has been matted down by the stickiness of spilled beer and high heel scuffs. You think you hear the sound of powder-white makeup and unrevealing dresses that puff up to unflattering heights; but those are just aural red herrings because, at its core, “In Between” is filled with cavernous eyes lurking beneath piercing black eyeliner and ripped stockings that offer only teasing glimpses of skin. It’s a mix of ’60s girl group shine, ’70s garage rock grime, and ’80s surf rock revival that makes you want to get drunk at prom, ditch it to get high in your parents’ garage, then ride down to the beach and skinny dip all night long.
“In Between” b/w “Breaking My Heart” is out soon on Manimal Vinyl.
