Big Sean Announces That His 2012 “Detroit” Mixtape Will Be Available For Streaming In Honor Of The 10-Year Milestone

Fans of Big Sean have good news once more, as the rapper and soon-to-be father will make his highly regarded 2012 Detroit mixtape available on streaming services in honor of its tenth anniversary. This afternoon, the “I Know” singer announced the release of his new mixtape through Twitter, writing, “10 years since I dropped this baby, what a journey. #DETROITMixtape available worldwide on all platforms tonight.”

This generated a lot of excitement among his fan base. Between his June 2011 debut album Finally Famous and his 2013 follow-up, Hall of Fame, Sean released an 18-track mixtape. The 34-year-old was able to secure an impressive lineup of features on Detroit, including those from J. Cole, Common, Mike Posner, Chip Tha Ripper, Juicy J, French Montana, Young Jeezy, Royce da 5’9″, Kendrick Lamar, and Chris Brown among others, even so early in his career.

Sean released a popular mixtape in 2012, but it wasn’t until 2020 that he released the follow-up, Detroit 2, which became his fifth studio album and ultimately reached the top spot on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

The rapper from California has previously brought back some of his earlier material. When Finally Famous turned 10 years old last year, the “Guap” artist released a remixed and remastered edition of the album that featured the as-yet-unreleased “Freshman 10,” detailing his experience at the 2010 XXL Freshman Class photoshoot.
