]]> If distance makes the heart grow fonder, then Basia Bulat has yours truly’s heart bursting at the seams.  She’s been jumping across borders in Europe as if the map was a game of hopscotch, living the life that only the truly spirited souls can live.  She managed to send this note while in Barcelona, written in Polish – only reminding me of the oceans between us.  Luckily, yours truly filmed this little postcard of Basia as she played the new song, “It Can’t Be You.”  And though she’s out of reach in this video, up on the hillside in the distance, it reminds why she’ll always be close to my heart.

So glad that Nate uncovered this footage, which had been missing now for almost 2 years. Basia was playing at The Brookdale Lodge, a little bar up in the Santa Cruz Mountains that’s part gorgeous wooden getaway and part creepy old haunt. Either way, a cool setting for a shoot. After stumbling on an drained indoor pool filled with old tables and chairs, Basia looked at the pool, looked at us, paused, and gave a nod like, “this is the spot.” Then she grabbed a chair, laid her harpsichord across her lap, and started to sing this song.
